VICTIMS of domestic violence are treated well by Dorset Police, according to a report from government inspectors.
Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary said a good service is provided despite failings in many other parts of the country.
There were a total of 2,648 incidents of domestic abuse reported in Dorset in the year to August 2013.
Domestic crimes account for a quarter of all assaults with intent to cause serious harm, 40 per cent of assaults with injury, 63 per cent of harassment cases and 22 per cent of sex offences.
HMIC Inspector Dru Sharpling said: “The public can have confidence that generally Dorset Police provide a good service to victims of abuse and help to keep them safe.
“Domestic abuse is a clear priority for the force and this is understood by staff at all levels. The force has a well-developed and effective response to high risk victims of domestic abuse.”
