LILLIPUT Sea Scouts came away with a sackful of trophies from the Royal Navy national championships held at HMS Raleigh, Plymouth.

The group that took part in the event, which attracts more than 200 Royal Navy Sea Scouts, leader and Explorer Sea Scouts from 25 groups around the UK, were congratulated by Poole Mayor, Cllr Phil Eades.

Over the weekend of competition teams competed in a variety of races including individual breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle races as well as team medley relays.

The six-strong team was Daisy Gallimore, Tom Ward, James Hedley in the under-12s and Louisa Kitcatt, Beatrice Reed and William Reed in the under 14s.

They brought home a horde of trophies and silver, winning the overall scout under-12 silver salver, first place in the life-saving line-throwing race and in the under-12 medley relay as well as third place in the whole squadron relay.

Three scouts came fourth in their individual stroke finals and three were in the top eight in their individual stroke heats.

Cllr Eades, who invited the triumphant team to his parlour, said: “It was a real pleasure to meet Lilliput Sea Scouts and congratulate them on their fantastic achievement at the Royal Navy national Sea Scouts swimming championships.

“They should feel very proud of their results and their well earned success,” he said.

Roy Farnham, Lilliput’s group scout leader, said: “We are so proud of the team and it’s great that they represented the group at a national event.”

Lt Cdr David Gray, RN Staff Officer Sea Scouts, said: “The Royal Navy wants to inspire youth to achieve and we saw plenty of achievement from the Lilliput Sea Scouts.”
