CABINET members in Bournemouth are being asked to approve an extra 90 primary school places from next year.

Increased demand means Elm Academy in Kinson and Jewell Academy in Townsend will be asked to add another class each with the final 30 children to be accommodate either at Kinson primary or the new Avonwood Primary in Boscombe East.

The council is also looking at ways to provide more secondary school places from 2018.

Councillors will consider the proposals for “the continued exceptionally high number of children expected to start school for the first time” at a meeting tomorrow.

The latest forecasts available indicate the demand for primary school places will not continue to rise as steeply as in recent years but will remain at a high level.
