A SCHOOL aiming to raise £30,000 for much-needed computers is on song following a special recording session.

The headteacher of a small primary school has written and composed a song to boost fundraising.

Andy Poole, head of St James’ First School in Alderholt, wrote Electricity and enlisted the help of pupils, parents and staff to record it.

Mr Poole said: “We’ve spent the day recording the song, and it has been amazing.

“Every child in the school is a part of it in some way, so it’s a real team effort. We just hope it raises some money for the school.”

Around 120 youngsters were involved in the song, penned by life-long musician Mr Poole. The creative head even played every instrument on the track bar a clarinet solo.

He said: “This all came about after I performed a concert for the church here in Alderholt.

“John Paterson, who is the vice-chair of the school governors, came along to see it and afterwards he said, ‘I’ve got a great idea – why don’t we record a song for the school?’.”

And he said the response has been “phenomenal”.

“We are very fortunate to be part of an incredibly supportive community, who have really backed us in this,” he said.

“We’re a small village school, but we’re lucky to have that help and backing from locals.”

The recording is one of dozens of events organised by parents, staff, pupils and the community to purchase new IT equipment.

Mr Poole said: “We’re hoping to buy new computers and iPads for the children, which will not only help them to learn, but to record their own music too.”

The song will be launched at an event that will take place during the Easter holidays.
