AROUND 70 burglaries have taken place at expensive beach huts at Mudeford Sandspit recently - with rewards offered for information.

Police are appleaing for witnesses following the burglaries - with two rewards also offered.

Since November 2013 the area has been subject to approximately 70 burglaries to beach huts, with the majority being committed over the last few weeks.

The Mudeford Beach Hut Association (MSBHA) is offering a reward of £500 for the arrest and conviction of an offender as well as a cash reward being offered by Crimestoppers.

PC Rob Donnelly, of the Boscombe Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “These crimes have caused a lot of expense and inconvenience to the beach hut owners.

“The large number of these crimes is a concern and I am keen to track down those responsible.

“It is possible that someone has seen something that could help with the investigation. I urge anyone who has seen suspicious behaviour in the area to contact the police.

“It is hoped that the rewards will encourage witnesses and anyone with information to come forward as soon as possible.”

Steve Barratt, chairman of the MSBHA, said: “The wanton damage to these family huts has caused a great deal of distress to the owners.

"Given that the huts contain very little of value makes this a senseless act of vandalism that must be stopped.”

Members of the public will only be eligible for the Crimestoppers cash reward if they call the Crimestoppers line – on 0800 555 111 – with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of an offender.

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 and quote action number 218679.

Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
