“ACCIDENTS happen, people make mistakes, it is what they choose to do afterwards that matters.”

These are the words of Natasha Motton, the daughter of crash victim Chris Colegate, who has described her horror at reading about this week’s hit and run collision in the Daily Echo.

On Wednesday, at just after 5pm, two brothers, aged four and seven, were mown down by a car at the junction of Wimborne Road and Kinson Road in Kinson.

Fortunately, both boys are recovering well from their injuries, but the driver fled the scene, despite having briefly stopped.

For Natasha, the horrifying story was a reminder of her own family’s ordeal in December last year.

“As soon as I saw it I was in shock, it took me straight back,” she said.

“Some of the details were exactly like what happened to dad.

“I know what it feels like to be sat in the hospital waiting room.

“I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

“Finding out the boys were okay was a huge relief.”

Although police investigating the Kinson crash have seized a vehicle, and are currently questioning a Ferndown woman in her 40s in connection with the incident, the search for the driver who killed Mr Colegate is still on-going.

The beloved 69-year-old grandfather suffered fatal injuries in a collision at the junction of Darby’s Lane and Heath Avenue in Poole, which occurred during the evening on December 13.

Natasha added: “We are taking each day as it comes, and trying to get back to some sort of normality.

“I know the police are still working really hard, they have lines of enquiry they are working on.

“We are hoping someone out there has got the decency to come forward.”

She said she couldn’t understand how hit and run drivers could live with themselves afterwards.

“I understand they might be in shock and want to get home, but it shouldn’t take them long to realise that they have done something wrong, and they need to put it right.”

Anyone with information about either incident can contact Dorset Police in confidence on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
