We know it's childish but we can't help but laugh when we see these funny place names in Dorset and the New Forest.

Shitterton, near Bere Regis, Dorset - Residents of Shitterton had to fork out for a new stone entrance sign because people kept stealing the normal road sign. Bere Regis Parish Council initiated the work and residents paid for the Purbeck stone block.

Villagers had spent months without a sign after pranksters stole it in the latest of many, many occasions. The new stone block was concreted to the ground.

Back in Victorian times the prudish had its name changed to Sitterton but, over the years, it reverted back to the original name, that derives from a farm on a stream used as a sewer.

Happy Bottom, a hamlet near Corfe Mullen, Dorset

Scratchy Bottom, Lulworth, Dorset. Go west along the coast path past Durdle Door and you will soon find it. Scratchy Bottom featured in the 1967 film of Far From the Madding Crowd.

Shaggs, East Lulworth, Dorset – rumoured to be where Prince Harry once rented a secret love nest with girlfriend Chelsy Davy.

River Piddle, Dorset – also Piddlehinton, Piddletrenthide for those who love a piddle.

Bournemouth Echo:

Sandy Balls, gets its name, they say, from the dome-shaped outcrops, and is more widely known as a long-established holiday centre near Fordingbridge, New Forest

Droop, a hamlet near Blandford Forum, Dorset.

Dungy Head, near West Lulworth, Dorset.

Gussage St. Michael, near Blandford Forum, Dorset – we’re not entirely sure why this makes us laugh – probably because it sounds like gusset.

Tincleton, near Dorchester, Dorset.

Bournemouth Echo:

Shatters Hill, the road that lies off Wareham’s North Street.

Crumpet’s Drive, Lytchett Matravers, Poole

Pistle Down near Verwood.

Belchawell near Sturminster Newton.

Bournemouth Echo:

Goathorn Close, Poole

Knacker’s Hole (Sturminster Newton)

Clapgate, near Wimborne

Pug’s Hole – the smallest of Bournemouth’s nature reserves, just off Meyrick Park golf course

Pig Bush, between Lymington and Beaulieu

Burnt Balls, a piece of heathland near Godshill in the New Forest

Knobcrook Road, in Wimborne

Is there one we've missed off the list? let us know in the comments below, email digital@bournemouthecho.co.uk or tweet @Bournemouthecho

OK, individually these locations in Amish Country, Pennsylvania are not funny, but there is a directional road sign just outside Lancaster, PA that lists the mileage to the following places, when you see this sign you can spend a long time laughing,
Intercourse, Bird-in-Hand, Paradise, Smoketown, Dutch Wonderland, Lost Treasure and Mount Sidney. Just type one in to Google Maps and you will see..

Sod those who down voted you and others who have at least come up with some other names.
