A CAMPAIGN is promoting Bournemouth as the most “eventful” coastal resort in the UK.

Bournemouth Coastal Business Improvement District (BID) launched its spring campaign with exhibition stands at this year’s Destinations and the Telegraph Outdoor Adventure and Travel Show in London.

Staff from Bournemouth Tourism joined the BID team to promote the town and tell visitors that there would be 200 events in the resort this spring, culminating in the Wheels Festival and P1 Powerboat event in May. They were joined at the shows by a Bournemouth-branded powerboat, making its public debut.

The aim was to persuade guests to book a break in Bournemouth by the end of April.

Guests booking with participating hotels could win a four-night VIP break to the Wheels Festival, for which the Coastal BID is the main festival partner and sponsor, from May 24-26.

The BID will also be taking out 250 advertising cards in the corridors of South West Trains carriages from mid-March and is running ads at commuter stations including Vauxhall, Surbiton and Clapham Junction.

Alun Williams, Coastal BID manager, said the spring travel shows had given the BID the chance to speak to thousands of potential visitors to Bournemouth.

“We, along with Bournemouth Tourism, are aware that there are a huge number of events that take place in Bournemouth,” he said.

“You’ve got the big events like Wheels, the Bay Run, the marathon and the air festival and the powerboating, but you’ve also got an amazing number of other events that take place.”

The BID has been using the Colour Your Life theme for its promotional campaigns for nearly 18 months.

“People need reasons to come to a place. We know how beautiful Bournemouth is, we know it’s a great place to be by the sea, but you can’t keep telling people that all the time,” said Mr Williams.

“We’re saying to people come to Bournemouth because it will colour your life, it will make you feel different, feel good. It will make you go away wanting to come back again.”
