CRICKETING legend David Gower has launched this year’s Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride from the plush surroundings of Sunseeker’s flagship luxury 155 Yacht.

The former England captain has been supporting the Daily Echo-backed charity event for several years.

“Not only has the Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride raised thousands of pounds for people with cancer, but it is a healthy way for those to take part to have fun and enjoy the countryside,” said David. “I’ve been pleased to support the event for a few years now, both on the bike and off.”

This year’s event, the 26th annual ride, takes place on Sunday, July 6, starting from Corfe Mullen.

There will be five circular courses, the 25-mile ride through Charborough Park, the 38, 48 and 60-mile rides, and the more challenging Macmillan 100 miles.

Cyclists are being encouraged to enter as early as possible online to reserve their 2014 cycling jersey.

Sunseeker agreed to stage the launch event on their latest yacht – which will soon undergo sea trials ahead of its delivery to Formula One mogul Eddie Jordan.

The company’s international operations director Wayne Moore will be taking part in the ride this year.

He said: “We hope to have a large number of Sunseeker employees and their families taking part.

“The whole day is superbly organised and allows riders to see some great areas of the Dorset countryside while raising money for a worthy cause.”

The charity ride attracts around 800 cyclists, and it has raised more than £1million for Macmillan Cancer Support.
