A DRIVERLESS car rolled down a Bournemouth road and crashed into the front of Beales department store.

Witnesses said the Audi had been parked in Albert Road when the driver left it unattended at around 10.30am this morning.

It rolled down the hill while he was gone and struck a wall beneath a display window in Beales.

Witnesses were astonished that the car had not harmed a pedestrian or hit any of the bollards around the store in Christchurch Road.

Dave Jenkins, store director for Beales, said: “The car was parked outside Bath Travel.

“It hit the front window and pushed the window in.

“I got a phone call from someone saying ‘The front of your store’s been hit’.

“All that matters is no one was hurt.”

The store remained open as normal but the area around the window was cordoned off pending a visit from builders.
