WAREHAM Town Museum is celebrating its 40th birthday by holding a competition for young people to design an anniversary logo.

All of the entries will be displayed in a special exhibition in the museum after it opens for the season in April.

Museum committee chairman Doreen Cleaton said: “We’re holding a design a logo competition for local young people, inviting them to create a historically themed 40th anniversary logo for us to use on our posters and other publicity items.

“There will be a small prize for the winner of each class and the chance for the overall winner to see their design in print, so why not have a go?”

Swanage & Wareham residents aged up to 18 can enter the contest, but they must do so by the February 28 closing date.

A Museum spokesman explained: “The museum will be holding a grand re-opening ceremony at 10am, Saturday, April 5, when the Mayor of Wareham Cllr Malcolm Russell will be cutting the ribbon.

“To help commemorate the anniversary there will be a morning of informal lectures on April 26, on the subject of Wareham’s history and what the town is doing to preserve its heritage, followed by an afternoon tour of historic Wareham.

“The morning’s programme will feature prominent speakers, both local and from further afield. See the website for further details shortly.”

Full instructions can be found on the Wareham Museum website, warehammuseum.fsnet.co.uk, or in Wareham Library, South Street.

The museum will reopen for the season on April 4.
