A HOSPITAL worker who was knocked down by a hit-and-run cyclist as she strolled along the pavement has described the impact as “like walking into a train at 100mph.”

Ann Woolston was taken to Poole Hospital, where she works as a ward clerk, so medics could tend to a gash on her forehead after the accident.

However, the mum-of-four, who was covered in blood following the collision, was more shocked that the cyclist failed to get her any help – instead he just apologised and rode off, leaving her to call paramedics.

The incident came just three days after Lewis Gill was jailed for four and a half years after he admitted killing Asperger’s sufferer Andrew Young with a single punch after Mr Young had exchanged words with a cyclist who had been riding on a pavement in Bournemouth.

Ann Woolston is now recovering at her Sterte Road home, in Poole, just yards from where she was struck.

Ann told the Daily Echo: “I’d been walking along the alleyway onto Sterte Road, turned left onto the pavement then...bang.

“It felt like walking into a train at 100mph.

“Within seconds the blood was pouring down my face and I just couldn’t see anything, “I was just fumbling around to get a tissue for my head because the blood was everywhere.”

The cyclist, a man in his twenties with dark curly hair, was left nursing a cut above his right eye, says Ann.

“He was saying ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry’ but he didn’t offer to ring me an ambulance or anything, off he went.”

Ann, aged 54, was hit in her legs by the bicycle and knocked into railings. The cyclist remained seated throughout the collision – both head injuries were caused when the pair ‘head-butted’ one another on impact.

Ann said: “He was riding along the pavement very, very fast. It is a big problem along Sterte Road.

“I think they get on their bikes down by the train station and just carry on, not bothering to ride on the road.

“Very often cyclists come tearing up the path.

“An elderly person or child would not have stood a chance. I’m just angry I’m not at work right now.”

Dorset Police confirmed the incident took place in Sterte Road, around 3.15pm on Monday, February 24.

They have asked witnesses or anyone with information to contact them on 101.
