STAFF and tots at a Swanage playgroup are celebrating after receiving a glowing endorsement from government education inspectors.

Mount Scar Cygnets Playgroup, that was inspected by Ofsted last month, was judged outstanding in all areas.

Playgroup manager Carrie Gelder said: “We are absolutely delighted with this fantastic report. It is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the whole team, the involvement of parents and carers, school and wider community.

“At the centre of cygnets are our children who give us the reason we need to make our provision the amazing and inspirational place that it is.”

The Ofsted inspector described the environment at the playgroup as safe, stimulating and nurturing – somewhere children flourished. She added that playgroup staff “clearly recognise the value of children learning through fun, play and first-hand experiences... consequently the quality of teaching is excellent”.

The playgroup’s outdoor areas were noted for being exceptionally well-equipped, and parents said staff were doing a “fantastic” job.

The inspector added: “All staff are highly skilled and sensitive in helping children form secure emotional attachments and provide a strong base for developing independence and exploration.”
