ENTRIES are now open for the Bournemouth Pier to Pier swim with organisers hoping to break the £100,000 barrier for the second year running.

The event is one of the British Heart Foundation’s biggest fundraisers and will be held this year on Sunday, July 13.

Recent stormy weather has made the possibility of calm, warm sea seem a million miles away but those interested are being urged to sign up as soon as possible.

Hundreds have already entered for the 1.4 mile swim, now in its 24th year.

Event organiser Andy Coles said: “We’re very excited. The event is always so well supported by the local community and we hope to see many enthusiastic people eager and willing to take on the challenge yet again this year. The event will sell out so be sure to enter soon.”

Entry costs £20 for adults and £10 for accompanied children aged 14-16. The fees cover the costs of running the event and participants are urged to raise as much sponsorship money as possible.

All money raised from the swim will fund essential research into heart disease, the single biggest killer in the UK.

“Andy added: “It is responsible for nearly 74,000 deaths each year – that’s over 200 people dying every single day – so we urgently need the people of Dorset to support us in our search for a breakthrough.”
