AN AFRICAN choir who entertained the world when they performed with Gary Barlow at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations are to play a concert in Bournemouth.

The African Children’s Choir has been booked to play the 1,000-seater Life Centre – Bournemouth Community Church’s base at the former Moderne Cinema in Wimborne Road, Moordown.

Moordown St John’s Church of England Primary School will also feature in the concert, on Wednesday, April 16 at 7pm.

The choir came to global attention with their performance of the number one single Sing with Gary Barlow at the Diamond Jubilee concert.

Music for Life, the choir’s official fundraising charity, works in seven African countries and has educated more than 52,000 children, as well as improving the lives of more than 100,000 people through relief and development prog-rammes in its 29 year history.

Many of the choir’s members have lost one or both parents to poverty and disease. Their performances aim to give people an opportunity to experience the vitality of Africa’s young people.

Fans of the choir include superstar Annie Lennox, who came across them during the global HIV/Aids prevention campaign to which Nelson Mandela gave his former prisoner number.

She said: “I first encountered the African Children’s Choir as they were heading towards the stage to perform for Nelson Mandela’s 46664 campaign.

“Since then I’ve come to appreciate more and more, just how uniquely special they are.”

Admission to the vent costs £5 for adults and £3 for children, with tickets available from Life Centre on 01202 530265.
