TEAM GB Olympic sailing sisters Kate and Lucy Macgregor have signed up for a new sports event in Bournemouth to support men’s health.

The sisters are among 200 people who have signed up for Bournemouth Hospital Charity’s March for Men on Sunday March 2, at Bournemouth Pier Approach.

Kate said: “Lucy and I want to encourage as many people as possible to support this great cause and join us at March for Men. Lucy is a better runner than I am so my personal goal is to beat her over the finish line.”

Kate and Lucy will also be joined by Team GB Volleyball player Dan Hunter, along with hospital staff, the public and patients to walk, jog or run 1km, 5km or 10km.

Former patient Gary Philip Barnes, 74, who has signed up to the 5km run, was diagnosed with cancer in April 2013. His treatment was successful and the event will mark almost a year since his diagnosis.

Mr Barnes has been part of the running group Littledown Harriers for almost 20 years and has completed seven marathons, the last one at the age of 65.

Barry Wilson, fundraising officer for Bournemouth Hospital Charity, said: “We are really happy with the number of entries we have had so far for the event but really want more people to enter.

“The more people that enter, the more money we can raise for men’s health.

“Although this will be a fun event for everyone to take part in, it is important to remember why we are doing it.”

Bournemouth Hospital Charity aims to raise £2m each year to support the patient experience above and beyond what the NHS can provide. Donations provide funding for much needed equipment and resources.
