Bournemouth Echo shortlisted for Regional Daily Newspaper of the Year award

Bournemouth Echo: Bournemouth Echo shortlisted for Regional Daily Newspaper of the Year award Bournemouth Echo shortlisted for Regional Daily Newspaper of the Year award

HOT on the heels of becoming the best newspaper in London and the South, the Daily Echo has been shortlisted for another prestigious award.

The Bournemouth-based title is the current EDF Energy London and the South Newspaper of the Year and is now vying to add to that, having been nominated for Regional Daily Newspaper of the Year at the 2014 Fujifilm Newspaper Awards.

Its sister title, the Weymouth-based Dorset Echo, has also been nominated.

Group Editor of the Daily Echo and Dorset Echo, Toby Granville, said: “I’m delighted that the talents and efforts of our exceptional, hard-working teams in Bournemouth and Weymouth have been recognised by the newspaper industry once again with both the Daily Echo and Dorset Echo being shortlisted for this prestigious award.”

The pair are the only two titles from the Newsquest group to be shortlisted and they will go up against the Cambridge News, Gloucester Citizen, News & Star, The Herald (Plymouth) and The Journal.

The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony at the London Hilton on April 1.

Well you win the award for Fawning and Licking the boots of Bournemouth Council, why do you not INVESTIGATE what is going on at the Town Hall instead of giving the leader FREE publicity because they are wasting our money but as the poster put it, You no longer invest in Bournemouth having moved up the road to Southampton.

Go into nearly every Indian restaurant in Bournemouth and they're displaying a Best Curry Award of some description or another, doesn't make them a good restaurant.
.
I've worked for companies who expend huge efforts securing meaningless industry awards. Unless the awards are determined by impartial customer, or in the Echo's case reader, feedback they are pretty meaningless. I'm sure that EDF Energy customers are delighted that their money is being used to sponsor a p**s up for local newspaper editors.

As my previous post if you haven't read it, wasn't very big article so don't go searching. Right where was I, oh yes, err hum, please don't shout at me as I'm a very sensitive but would like to join in if that's okay? I don't post anything negative as I believe there's always to sides to a story. My point on this post is: If you don't like or support the Echo paper and whats it's doing for the community, why do you read it and obviously take a huge amount of time to criticise it. Well, I've now gone and done it....so please go easy on me! x

I think if you take the time to read the comments Echo it's pretty obvious what those that matter think ie the readers. Bask in your corporate, nonsense award nomination but in the end it's pretty obvious to all that in the real world, you need to do a far, far better job just to achieve average status.

In response to your question Tarquins, simply because it's our local daily newspaper and it doesn't do a very good job. Can't add much to that really except to say us locals care about where we live and we'd very much like our local rag to deliver a better standard of news both in its choice of story and quality of writing. No anger really, just a case of repeatedly banging the same old drum :-)

Good old Gannett. Whether it's USA Today or the Bournemouth Echo/Advertiser, they will completely mess it up in every possible way. Still, 6% profit increase since they massively increased the prices in their UK papers - shame about the sales decline but it's all about the short term.
