A 23-year-old Bournemouth driver has been involved in a fatal crash on one of Southampton's busiest roads tonight.
The driver of an Audi A3 car was involved in a collision with a male pedestrian on Bassett Avenue.
The elderly pedestrian was taken to Southampton General Hospital, but pronounced dead shortly after he arrived.
The man, who has not been named, is aged 70 and from the Southampton area.
His family has been informed.
The accident happened as the car drove north at about 4pm near the junction with Saxholm Way.
It closed the road for sometime causing major traffic chaos.
The road has since re-opened.
The car driver was unhurt.
