A HAMWORTHY resident says that the area has become gridlocked by traffic following the sewerage works on Blandford Road.

Michael Dennis, 64, who lives on Coles Avenue, says that due to vehicles being diverted away from the main busy road, while workmen from Wessex Water carry out repairs, the side roads are constantly full of queuing motorists.

He added: “The 920 Lytchett Matravers schoolbus was stuck in a queue of vehicles at 9.15am this morning, when the pupils should have been at school.

“It’s all because the bus now has to go from Upton and then to Turlin Moor and along that way, which takes longer and makes all children on the bus really late.

“They’re probably not getting to school until 9.45am. I don’t think Wessex Water realise what trouble they are causing.”

More bus company also took to their Twitter feed to warn passengers that due to the roadworks, routes 8 and 9 are operating around 15 to 20 minutes late and apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Workmen from Wessex Water have closed the road between the junctions of Turlin Road and Allen’s Lane, after the sewer on Blandford Road Burst on Sunday.

A spokesperson for Borough of Poole said earlier this week that they do not know how long the road will be closed, but indications suggest that it will not be until at least this Sunday.

In a statement released on Tuesday, a Wessex Water spokeswoman, said: “A section of Blandford Road will be closed to traffic while repairs to a burst sewer are carried out.

She added that the closure had been agreed Borough of Poole to ensure the safety of motorists and workers on site.

“Repairs are expected to be completed by next week and we will be working 24 hours-a-day to ensure repairs are completed as quickly as possible.

“Wessex Water apologises for any disruption this emergency work causes and reminded people that businesses remain open as usual.”
