Bournemouth singer Si Genaro becomes internet hit after 'Chicken Train' performance on The Voice

Bournemouth Echo: VIDEO: 'Chicken Train' creator Si Genaro becomes internet hit after appearing on The Voice VIDEO: 'Chicken Train' creator Si Genaro becomes internet hit after appearing on The Voice

A BOURNEMOUTH musician stole the show and ruffled some feathers when he took to the stage for The Voice UK with his self-penned number, Chicken Train.

Self-confessed acoustic beat-boxing folk punk reggae artist, Si Genaro, became an overnight internet sensation after his bizarre performance at the blind auditions for the popular TV show.

The comedian and singer had judges Kylie Minogue and Will.i.am dancing in their seats but unfortunately he was not buzzed and chosen to go through to the next round.

Chicken Train, along with Si’s name, soon began trending on Twitter, winning both internet love and derision from some who did not take to the “badger chaser’s” novelty act.

He said: “It has been absolutely bonkers and I can’t believe how much love was shown for the song. I was almost 100 per cent sure I would not be chosen but I decided that I would try to make good TV instead.”

The 42-year-old first took to the stage with his version of Men At Work’s hit Down Under, but when he failed to get any chairs to spin he tried to win the judges over with his own composition.

Kylie said: “I love that song. You nearly had me at vegemite sandwich. I enjoyed it but the beat-boxing seemed like a waste of your valuable song.”

The entertainer is now releasing the Chicken Train video today on Bandcamp and it will be available tomorrow on iTunes. Si is well-known on the local music scene and runs open mic nights at Le Bateau, Blushh in Christchurch and O’Neills in Bournemouth.

He started his music career as a harmonica player and has supported David Essex on his UK tour.

The episode of The Voice featuring Si aired on BBC One last Saturday.

This is what music is becoming - novelty acts turning to TV for 5 minutes of fame. Good luck to him, but what's the point?

I know it's only too easy to knock the Echo these days, but in their defence can I point out that although the programme was aired last Saturday, the story is about the fact that Si Genaro's video is being released today and will be available on itunes tomorrow.
With your logic you'd be complaining if a murder was committed last Saturday and the Echo was reporting today that police had arrested someone for it.
Mind you, some might say that murder was committed last Saturday on The Voice when Si Genaro sang...

Someone's telling a porky here.

On the show last Saturday, this guy said he lived "in a forest" and said hello to all the "New Forest people".

This article says he is a "Bournemouth musician".

Not wishing to split hairs but does anyone know where is actually from or lives?

Does anyone care?

Si lives in The New Forrest but is very much a Bournemouth man, he runs 3 open Mic nights in and around Bournemouth and happens to be one of Bournemouth's go to harp players.
