THE Met Office has issued a 'yellow' warning for heavy rain on Friday.

The warning for Dorset, Poole and Bournemouth is valid from 12.10am until 11.45pm and says accumulations of up to 30mm are possible in some areas.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Bands of rain are expected to move eastwards across south and southwest England during Friday. Rainfall accumulations of 10 to 20 mm are expected over most parts, with 30 mm or more possible over some areas, especially windward coasts and hills.

"With the ground saturated over much of the region, the public should be aware of the risk of further local flooding and associated disruption."

The chief forecaster added: "Active frontal troughs will move eastwards across the UK during Friday, bringing further strong winds and heavy rain to many places.

"The combination of very moist air and strong southerly winds will give rainfall accumulations that have the potential for flooding over parts of south and southwest England where the ground remains saturated."
