A MAN has been charged in connection with the death of Daniel Robbie whose body was found in undergrowth near the Upton bypass last September.

The 23-year-old young father had been riding a child’s micro scooter in the early hours of Sunday, September 15.

Mum, Julie Croucher, had posted a series of messages on Facebook urging people to look out for her son over the course of the weekend.

Following his mother’s appeal, officers from Dorset Police were alerted to a scooter on the near-side verge of the east-bound carriageway of the A35 Upton Bypass, between the A350 flyover and Holes Bay Road in Poole.

Blandford man, Matthew James, 27, has been charged with failing to stop after a road accident and failing to report a road accident and is due to appear at Bournemouth Magistrates Court on Tuesday, February 4.

It is believed that Mr Robbie, of Throop Close, was trying to get home ahead of his five-month-old son’s heart operation at the time of the incident.

An inquest into his death found that he died of multiple injuries and his funeral was later held at Bournemouth Crematorium on Friday, October 4, 2013.

His family placed a funeral notice in the Daily Echo which described Mr Robbie as the “handsome, beloved son” of Julie and Graham and stepson of Andy and Amanda.

He was also a big brother to Tom, Katie, Rhiannon and Kieron, brother-in-law to Shannon and “devoted daddy” to Lily, Daisy and Charlie.”

Tributes poured in for the popular Bournemouth man, with many leaving flowers at the side of the road close to the scene.
