THE recent flooding of Magna Road at Merley, which caused the closure of the road for eight days, has been traced.
On January 2 after further rain and flooding which caused a two-day closure, Borough of Poole found a partially-blocked outfall pipe running into the grounds of Canford School.
Officers also located a buried chamber in the woods below the flood with a blocked grill.
When this was cleared the water was able to clear faster.
“Providing the chamber grill is kept clear or is cleared if water starts to build up, we’re confident the road will not have to be closed during heavy rain in the future,” said Shaun Robson, head of environmental protection services.
“We apologise for the disruption caused during this exceptionally severe rain,” he said in his report which goes before the Broadstone, Merley and Bearwood area committee tomorrow.
