The long-awaited launch of new consoles from Microsoft and Sony helped retailer Game nearly double sales over Christmas as the chain bounced back from administration less than two years ago.

The owners of the company – which has shops in Poole High Street and at Castlepoint – are understood to be considering plans for a £300m stock market flotation later this year.

The group was rescued from administration in March 2012 by a group of investors including turnaround specialist OpCapita. The Game store in Commercial Road, Bournemouth, was among the branches which closed during the administration.
