Following the success of its 2012 competition Poole Harbour Commissioners and the Daily Echo have teamed up again and are calling on readers to get snapping.

The competition runs for two months and is divided into four themes, with each running for two weeks. It kicks off today with winter water activities in the bustling harbour, which could range from ferries arriving, watersports or port activities and the closing date for entries is January 25.

PHC and the Daily Echo are encouraging readers of all ages and abilities to submit photographs and the winner of the category will take home a Go-Pro Hero 3+ silver edition camera worth £250.

“Even during the cold winter months, Poole Harbour is still a fascinating beauty spot and one of the most photographed places in Dorset,” said Jim Stewart, chief executive of Poole Harbour Commissioners.

The aim of the competition is to create greater awareness of the diversity within Poole Harbour and to highlight the delicate balance between nature and human activities.

A myriad of activities take place in and around Europe’s largest natural harbour and the other categories are wildlife/nature, professional photographers and under 21s.

Winning photos of each category will be posted on PHC’s social media channels and snaps will be selected at random to appear on the Have Your Say page in the Echo and may also appear on the website.

Email your entry, which should be at least 500kb, with your name, address and telephone number to PHCphotocomp2013@bournemouthecho.co.uk with PHC Competition1 in the subject line.

One entry per person, per category, will be accepted.

Photographs must be recent and relevant to the theme. Photos must be readers own and not plagiarised from elsewhere.
