A BOURNEMOUTH woman treated for breast cancer is attempting to raise £5,000 to show her gratitude to the staff who cared for her.

Lynne Deller, of Muscliff, was stunned when a routine mammogram and subsequent biopsies revealed she had cancer in two places.

Just two months later she had a mastectomy at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and is now well on the way to a full recovery.

But her experience highlighted the desperate need for a purpose-built women’s unit at the hospital and Lynne is now organising a series of fundraising attempts to boost the Jigsaw Women’s Unit Appeal.

She said: “It really was a bolt from the blue when I was recalled following the mammogram.

“I had just come back from seeing my son in Australia and life couldn’t have been better.

“Everything moved very quickly then but the care I received was amazing and that support helped so much.

“The staff were so caring and so supportive.

“Afterwards I just felt I needed to put something back and set myself the target of raising £5,000.”

Lynne has already raised £714 and her next event is a Mad Hatters’ Tea Party at the Shack in Muscliff on February 17. Tickets for this are on sale at £5 each.

She is also planning a barn dance or similar event in the summer and is appealing to other people to organise their own events to help her reach her fundraising total.

Anyone who could help organise an event or sponsor one of Lynne’s can contact her by telephoning 07891 125247 or email her at lynnedeller@hotmail.co.uk Alternatively, follow her progress on Facebook and Twitter.
