A POLICE officer was allegedly hit over the head with a beer bottle after a party got out of hand last month.

Three young men were arrested following the alleged assault, which is said to have taken place at Stour Row Village Hall, Shaftesbury, on December 27 following a Christmas and New Year’s Eve party.

One – an 18-year-old from Gillingham – has now been charged with assaulting a police constable, possession of cannabis and being drunk and disorderly in a public place, and will appear at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court.

Police officers were called to reports that a large group of intoxicated teenagers were causing criminal damage outside the hall.

Two PCs were allegedly injured, with one suffering a wound to his elbow, but neither required hospital treatment.

Damage was also reportedly caused to a fence and window at a property in Stour Row.

Two 17-year-olds have been released on police bail pending further enquiries following the incident.

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 27:372.
