A PART of Poole's Twin Sails bridge has been blown loose by the stormy winds and is being held in place by a crane.

A Poole council spokesman said one of the steel 'totems' on the Hamworthy side has come loose but engineers are on site re-securing the totem.

One lane has been temporarily closed to traffic while these works are carried out as a crane is being used to support the totem.

The four 7-metre high curved stainless steel totems house the safety barriers, warning lights and operating systems for the Twin Sails Bridge.

Road users are being directed over Poole Bridge by electronic message signs in the area.

A spokesperson from Poole Council said they expect the work will take most of the day as they will check all the other totems to ensure they are safe.
