A PROJECT to build a new bus hub at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital will enter its final stage this week.

Bus passengers and motorists are being warned the final four-week phase will bring some disruption, as bus stops are temporarily relocated and new speed restrictions put in place.

But, once complete, the new hub will include new shelters, an improved waiting area and real time passenger information. There will also be a covered walkway linking the hub to the hospital entrance.

The final phase will begin today and will see the entrance and exit completed as well as resurfacing work.

The hospital bus stops will be temporarily moved to the bus lane on Castle Lane East and the speed limit will be restricted to 30mph between the Cooper Dean roundabout and Chaseside junction.

Ian Kalra, head of transportation services, said: “We are very excited to deliver the new bus hub in partnership with the bus operators and the hospital trust, so that we can provide an improved service to its current users, as well as encouraging new customers to use bus travel.

“Whilst every effort has been made to keep disruption to the minimum, these temporary changes may cause some delays at peak times.

“We would encourage all road users to take the works into consideration when planning your journey.”

Edwin Davies, of the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are pleased with the progress that has been made on the new bus hub and we are finalising plans for a covered walkway to the main hospital entrance, which we will complete in the New Year.

“We are keen to encourage the use of public transport and hope these improvements will make travel by bus more attractive and convenient for our staff, patients and visitors.”
