POLICE have confirmed that they are no longer making enquiries into reports that a man fell into the River Stour between Iford and Tuckton on Wednesday night.

A large-scale search, involving police, fire crews, the Coastguard and RNLI, was launched after a report from a member of the public that someone had fallen into the water.

Nothing was found on Wednesday and police and fire teams returned to the river banks again on Thursday to no avail.

Search teams stood down at 2.30pm on Thursday and police said no further action could be taken unless new information came to light.

No official report of a missing person was ever made.

An appeal for witnesses, in particular for a woman seen arguing with a man prior to the report, was also issued by police.

But this morning, a police spokesman confirmed that there were “no ongoing live enquiries”.
