Members of Kinson church clearing up after hall floods for fourth time in two years
MEMBERS of a Kinson church are picking up the pieces after their foodbank and community space was flooded for the fourth time in two years.
Churchwardens at St Andrews Church were on site this week assessing the damage to their community room after flood water gushed through the building on Christmas Eve.
On Boxing Day, the rear car park was still submerged with underground pumps beneath the floor of the building pumping out gallons of water.
Churchwarden Simon Wareham said: “You could only just see the top of the gate the water was so high.
“I've been coming to this church since the 1960s and this is the worst I have ever seen it.
“This is the fourth time we have been flooded since 2011.”
Since the last serious incident in 2012, the floor has been completely taken out and pumps installed to remove water in the event of another incident.
Thankfully the food bank at the church should be back in business once checks have been completed on the items although the entire ground floor needs to be dried out and aired.
Fellow churchwarden Brian Phillips added: “The difficulty for us is the community facilities are back to where they were 12 months ago.”
