A BLAZE at a block of flats in Somerford is believed to be arson, fire investigators have confirmed.
Police are now conducting an enquiry into the fire, which began in a hallway of the Dorset Road property.
Kirah Lamb, seven, and her three-month-old brother Zack were rescued from a window by firefighters on Sunday night after becoming trapped in their home.
The youngsters’ mum Sophie, 26, had gone out with her other children, two-year-old Preston and six-year-old Ella, and was forced to watch helplessly as her children were brought down a ladder.
Her boyfriend, Wayne Durno, was in the flat with Kirah and Zack, but was able to walk out of the building after the fire was extinguished.
Others feared they would be trapped in the building after the wires operating the front door melted in the heat.
However, no one was injured.
A Dorset Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate, and Dorset Police are conducting an investigation.”
