ROADS are closed around Wimborne are set to reopen last today after a barn fire where 200 tonnes of straw was destroyed.

Firefighters were called to the scene, just South of Creech Hill Wood, at 2am on Friday and found a large barn fire but decided it was safe to burn out.

Two pumps stayed at the scene between Cranborne Road and Wimborne St Giles Road, until 5.30am and then a few firefighters were retained to continue to monitor the fire.

The roads are due to reopen later today, police said, once BT has fixed phone cables that were damaged.

Motorists are advised to avoid the road blocks and find an alternative route.
