A TEENAGER with cerebral palsy battled through the pain to complete a sponsored walk with fellow pupils at Bourne Academy to raise £10,000 for a life-changing operation.

Fifteen-year-old Iesha Manns, who is unable to walk or stand unaided, now lives in constant pain because her hip is dislocated.

The Year 10 pupil who was an active player in the Academy Boccia team requires urgent surgery but has been told to expect a waiting time of six months. Students and staff at Bourne Academy have organised numerous events including the sponsored mile walk to raise £10,000 so her operation can take place immediately.

Iesha, whose favourite subject is health and social care, said: “The support from everyone at the Academy has been amazing.

“My hip is dislocated so it’s really painful. During the walk it wasn’t too bad, but afterwards it was really painful again.”

Around 20 students took part in the sponsored walk around Bourne Academy and the school raised £400 towards the operation.

Della Dawson from Bourne Academy said: “We are a small, tight-knit family so when one of your own needs something to stop them being in pain then we all work together.

“Although in constant pain, Iesha is a constant joy in the classroom, always taking part in lessons and does not shy away from getting involved especially in sports. She was an active player in the Academy Boccia team, who were national Boccia Champions in 2012, and is an inspiration to everyone who comes into contact with her.

“Last week we started raising money and we are hoping that more members of the public will donate.”

Bourne Academy has also organised several bake sales and raffles.

Any donations can be sent to Della Dawson at The Bourne Academy, Hadow Road, Bournemouth, BH10 5HS.
