David Cameron thanks ‘entrepreneurs of the future’ after youngsters send him poppy

Bournemouth Echo: INITIATIVE: The Prime Minister models the poppy made by students INITIATIVE: The Prime Minister models the poppy made by students

ENTERPRISING youngsters at a Christchurch primary school have been congratulated on their skills by the Prime Minister, David Cameron.

Pupils at the Priory School were sent a letter from the Prime Minister after their chair of governors, Judy Jamieson, met him at a Downing Street reception recently, presenting him with a poppy made by the students. So impressed was the Prime Minister with the poppy, he wrote a letter to the Wick Lane school, praising the youngsters.

He said: “Thank you so much for the felt poppy which was given to me by your Chair of Governors, Judy Jamieson, during a recent visit to Downing Street.

“The poppy was beautifully made and I was so impressed to learn about the school’s recent Entrepreneur Week. This is an excellent idea and I very much hope that the initiative will create many entrepreneurs of the future! I congratulate all of the staff and pupils involved in Entrepreneur Week.”

He thanked the pupil who had made the “beautiful” poppy for him and wished everyone at the school the best for the future and a Happy Christmas.

Every student was involved in a special pop-up shop in October, making Christmas cards, Christmas wreaths, cushions and calendars as well as learning how to deal with customers and working out change at the till.

Each youngster was offered £1 from the school budget on loan and as a class they had to come with an idea which would sell.

While many chose Christmas, some wanted to focus on Remembrance Sunday, making poppies to sell for the Poppy Appeal.
