A CHRISTCHURCH woman was so moved by the plight of the victims of the Philippines typhoon disaster that she has had her head shaved for charity.

Christine Walsh, 39, drew a crowd in Saxon Square on Sunday afternoon as her friend, hairdresser Marie Underwood, clipped off her shoulder-length locks.

“Seeing all the reports about that disaster on the news really got to me,” she said.

“I wanted to do something more than just donating money, and this has certainly got people’s attention. We were based by the cross and had quite a crowd watching and putting money in the buckets.

“My family and friends think I’m a bit mad but they are getting behind me. It is going to take a long time to grow back.”

So far Mrs Walsh, who lives in Dorset Road with her husband Paul and her two step-children, has raised more than £400 for the national appeal campaign.
