POOLE Tourism is in the running to be named Tourist Information Service of the Year in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards for 2013/14.

It has been shortlisted in the awards which have attracted nearly 350 entries across 16 categories and follows the team’s Gold Award in October’s Dorset Tourism Awards.

Bruce Grant-Braham, chairman of Poole Tourism Partnership, said; “This is great news and something the team can be really proud of. We know Poole’s Welcome Centre is highly valued by both the public and our tourism partners.

“Their professionalism and knowledge is second to none and it’s wonderful to get this kind of recognition particularly when these services are under pressure in many towns.”

Other finalists in the category include Dartmouth, Devon’s English Riviera and Lyme Regis Tourist Information Services. Winners will be announced at a ceremony on 30 January 2014 at the Holiday Inn, Plymouth.

Cllr Judy Butt, right, portfolio holder for tourism, said; “The team play a pivotal role in promoting the town as a thriving resort, benefitting businesses and residents.

“When you have a location as good as this, supported by a superb partnership of local businesses, the enthusiasm comes shining through and ensures Poole can consistently punch above its weight as a destination.”
