Get snapping! Following the success of the 2012 photo competition, Poole Harbour Commissioners and the Daily Echo have teamed up for a re-run.

The aim of the competition is to create greater awareness of the diversity within the harbour and highlight the delicate balance between nature and human activities.

It will launch on the 13th January 2014 and for two months competition photos will be printed in the newspaper’s Have Your Say pages.

The themes will focus on the harbour through the winter months with four different categories, water activities, under 21s, professional photographers and wildlife.

Each category will run for two weeks with a different winner’s prize. Winning photos will be posted on PHC’s social media channels.

To kick-start the competition on the 13th  January, the first topic is winter water activities. PHC and the Echo are encouraging readers of all ages and abilities to click those shutters and submit their photos by January 25 for the chance to win a Go-Pro Hero 3+silver edition camera.

Jim Stewart, chief executive of Poole Harbour Commissioners said: “Even during the cold winter months, Poole Harbour is still a fascinating beauty spot and one of the most photographed places in Dorset.

“Over the Christmas period we want to encourage more people to get out with their cameras and capture all aspects of harbour life from boating, watersports and commercial port activities to wildlife and fishing.

“So whether there are images of ferries arriving, windsurfing or kitesurfing and other watersports, commercial port activity, flora and fauna, or the variety of wildlife that inhabit the surrounding islands we are looking forward to seeing the diversity of Poole Harbour represented throughout the winter.”
