Christmas events: what’s happening this weekend in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch
Stuck for something to do this weekend? Want to go to something festive? Well there are plenty of events taking place across Dorset this weekend.
Here are just a few to whet your appetite.
On Saturday, the Pink Champagne ladies cancer dragon boat team will be wearing Santa hats and singing carols at Christchurch River while later in the day, the 25th Wimborne Save the Children Christmas parade will take place in the historic town.
It will include floats, majorettes, morris dancers, live music and more with a Santa's Grotto in Wimborne Square between 10.30am and 4.30pm.
Entry is £6 per child and includes a gift. All proceeds go to Julia's House Children's Hospice.
Highcliffe Carnival will have events taking place in the seaside village all day with children’s entertainment and live music from 1pm.
The carnival will take place from 6pm along the main street, Lymington Road.
From 4pm until 9pm, Winton's Winter Wonderland will be held at the YMCA. There is a chance to ride Stumpy the Christmas Donkey and meet Santa in his grotto.
Tickets are £3 for adults and £2 for children.
In the early evening, the festive residents of Runton Road in Poole will be switching on their Christmas lights outside their houses.
This is Poole’s most decorated road and last year the street featured on the One Show with more than 2,500 people turning up to see them.
The grand switch-on is due to take place at 5pm.
It's not strictly a Christmas event but during the morning, at 10am, the new Hengistbury Head outdoor centre will be opened while in Poole, also at 10am, the official opening of the £1.6m soft play and cafe complex The Ark will also be opened.
On Sunday, a Festive Fun Day will be held at Moors Valley from 11.30am - 4pm.
