Bournemouth midwife selected to star in calendar featuring world’s most beautiful single people

Bournemouth Echo: Clare Travis-Punter, 31 Clare Travis-Punter, 31

A MIDWIFE from Bournemouth has been selected to star in a new calendar claiming to feature the world’s most beautiful single people.

Clare Travis-Punter, 31, right, is the only British person to be chosen for the calendar which has received more than 45,000 submissions from members of the BeautifulPeople.com website.

Appearing alongside a 25-year-old nuclear engineer in the US navy and a 19-year-old computer engineer from Norway, Clare has already received more than 12,000 views to her profile.

The midwife from Bournemouth who studied Psychology at the University of Southampton joined the site 18 months ago.

She said: “Nearly a year and a half on, and I’ve been selected to appear in the site’s 2014 calendar. It’s all been very exciting.

“I’ve been dating a number of members some of whom I’ve stayed in contact with, but am still looking to meet someone I really have a connection with.”

BeautifulPeople.com has been described as an “elite online club” where existing members vote whether to accept aspiring members based on pictures.

Managing director of BeautifulPeople.com, Greg Hodge said: “The calendar showcases not only the most beautiful, but the most popular single people in the world.

“Not only did these stunning men and women beat our rating system but their profiles have been viewed more than 12,000 times, making them ‘Super Beautiful’ amongst our online community.”

One must have some sort of ego to sign up for BeautifulPeople.com. It all sounds a bit narcissistic to me. Surely the most truly beautiful people are those who don't even realise it?

My god, managing the pressure that must come with being part of the elite BeautifulPeople. But of course beauty really is about more than looks, and really is in the eye of the beholder. I see women with more engaging looks than Ms Travis-Punter every day on my travels. Yes, she has blond hair, which - if it's genuine, not a bottle job - is reckoned to have the same asset value as a university degree. Sorry, what was her job?

If there's one thing I find awkward and distasteful it's people who overindulge in their own appearance. I genuinely cannot think of anything that would repel me more about a member of the opposite sex than to know they have enrolled in an elite website that selects it's members purely based upon looks. Each to their own I suppose, it takes all sorts!

Indeed, this "article" seems like nothing but a free advert for some superficial dating site.

The marketing folks / ad agency of the aforementioned website must be laughing into their Colombian Marching Powder right now. A sure fire way of getting exposure to their site, which as I understand it, provides personal ads for the vain and shallow. And, it fills a pre-christmas blank page in the echo. Everyone's a winner! Except journalism.

Sadly, it's for real. There's an element amongst us that prizes it's outward appearance above it's integrity. Quite sad, but true. Fortunately, they have joined a 'special club' which excludes decent and sensible thinking people. Thank god most of us don't have to to indulge in such nonsense and can achieve our life's pleasures without being reliant upon superficialities.
