THE winners of a photography competition celebrating Boscombe received their prizes in the Royal Arcade on Wednesday.

Local resident David Butcher and ten-year-old Morgan Ford, a pupil at Bethany Junior School, were selected as the overall winners of the competition, which attracted almost 400 entries, 12 of which will feature in a Backing Boscombe 2014 calendar.

Mr Butcher was selected for his night time image of fishermen on Boscombe Pier, while Morgan a pupil at Bethany Junior School won praise for his unusual view of the boardwalk on the Pier.

They each won £100 of high street vouchers.

Cllr Jane Kelly, cabinet member for partnerships and regeneration, said: “We had a fantastic response to the competition and we were spoilt for choice with the photos that local residents submitted.

“We asked people to show through the art of photography what Boscombe meant to them, whether it was seafront images, shots of town centre landmarks or local architecture. We hope that the project will help to positively raise the profile of Boscombe and the good work by the Boscombe Regeneration Partnership and its commitment to improving the area.”

Other shortlisted entries, to be featured in the calendar, showcased well-known Boscombe locations including a snowy Shelley Park, Churchill Gardens and the Royal Arcade.

The calendars will also be available for free in the New Year from Boscombe Library and the Regeneration Partnership Office in Roumelia Lane.
