Festive season celebrated in Swanage as hundreds flock to Christmas fair
THE festive season has officially started in Swanage following the annual Christmas Fair at the weekend.
Bumper crowds turned out for the event, organised by Commercial Road traders and Swanage Rotary Club.
And with more than 50 stalls on offer for the crowds, the fair has been hailed as one of the best yet.
Rotarian David Pike said: “It went very well indeed.
“We are very pleased with it. There were lots of stalls and things to enjoy for everyone who came along, with lots of local people and local businesses having the opportunity to take part.
“Swanage groups and organisations were also manning some of the stalls.”
The popular Christmas market, held in Station Road and Commercial Lane, showcases the best the town has to offer.
It began around a decade ago, when the Commercial Road market launched an event that now ties in with the Rotary club’s festivities.
Crowds took part in carol singing at midday, and even Santa Claus made a special appearance. Mr Pike said: “It’s always very popular, but we were lucky with the weather this year.
“I remember times when the wind and rain were so awful that we almost had to tie ourselves to street furniture to keep from blowing away. We’re always very grateful for all the support we get from Swanage people, and any surplus money raised will go towards improving the festive lighting in the town.”
