A STRAY dog caused carnage in a Poole garden when it savaged four chickens.

But when their distraught owner shut the dog in her house and demanded an apology from its owner, police threatened her with a caution for ‘kidnap’, said Lisa Roberts.

She has now made an official complaint to Dorset Police over the way two officers dealt with the incident at Spruce Close, Creekmoor.

It began at around 7am on Wednesday when a neighbour alerted the family to a dog attacking the chickens, which had been let out from their coop.

“I came flying out of the house,” said Lisa, 42. “This dog had eaten four of my chickens.

“There was blood and feathers everywhere. It was horrible.”

She caught the dog, a spaniel-cross-Jack Russell, and found a phone number which she rang, while upset husband Steven, 47, attempted to clear up the mess before daughter Molly, six, went out to collect the eggs.

“It was carnage,” she said.

“My husband was so upset, they are like his pets.”

One chicken, still in the coop survived but the dog made frantic efforts to get it. She said a woman came to the house to collect the dog but would not apologise and Mrs Roberts would not release the dog until she did.

The incident escalated when the dog’s owner called up reinforcements, and four cars turned up. Lisa called the police when men banged on the window and threatened her.

“All I wanted was an apology and they wouldn’t do it,” she said. “The police said it was not a criminal offence by the dog coming in and eating my chickens. It was a criminal offence by me kidnapping a dog,” she said. “I couldn’t believe it. I’m the victim.”

One of the officers made a personal comment about her she said, and a police spokesman confirmed that a complaint has been made and police are looking into it. No arrests have been made and the spokesman said the dog incident was a civil not a criminal matter.
