HAVE you seen this man who is wanted for a ‘distressing’ burglary in Rossmore?

Officers from Dorset Police have released this e-fit in order to catch the man who pretended to be a council worker and gained entry to a property in Benbow Crescent between 12.10pm and 12.30pm on Tuesday November 19.

The offender targeted a victim in her 80s and told her he had come to check the pipes.

Initially she refused him entry after he calimed he’d left his identity card in the can but later allowed him in the kitchen.

Having gained entry he went into her lounge without her permission before leaving.

Later it was discovered that a purse containing bank cards and a small amount of cash had gone missing.

PC Paul Diffey, of Poole police, said: “Despite the occupant’s best efforts to check the suspect’s identity he was very persistent. He only left when she threatened to call the police.

“I am now in the position to release an e-fit of the offender.

“I would urge the man pictured – and anyone who recognises him – to contact Dorset Police.

“It was fortunate that the occupant was not injured but this has been a distressing ordeal for her.

“I would like to remind all residents not to allow entry to anyone unless they display a valid identity card.

“Anyone with concerns is also encouraged to check if unexpected visits are genuine. Legitimate companies and organisations are always happy to confirm whether one of their representatives is at a location for a genuine reason.”

Cllr Judy Butt, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Public Engagement and Participation, including Community Safety, Borough of Poole, said: “This is a shocking crime and I'm deeply sorry that this lady was the victim of someone impersonating a council officer.

"When Borough of Poole sends an officer to visit a resident, they will always have an ID badge which has their picture and job role printed on it.

“We would advise people not to allow anyone entry to their property without asking for credentials and then checking that they are correct.

"Should an officer visit without their ID badge, or if a resident is in any doubt over the authenticity of an ID badge, they can always ring 01202 633489 to confirm the person is employed by the council.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 19:171. Alternatively, call the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111
