Two more charged in Christmas drink and drug driving campaign

Bournemouth Echo: Two more charged in Christmas drink and drug driving campaign Two more charged in Christmas drink and drug driving campaign

TWO more people have been charged in the first few days of Dorset Police’s Christmas crackdown against drink and drug driving.

So far five people have been charged with driving a vehicle when their alcohol level was above the legal limit.

All five will appear at Bournemouth Magistrates Court and those convicted will be named in the Daily Echo.

It is part of the police’s Countdown to Christmas which will also see an increase in traffic patrols and roadside checks throughout December and the New Year. Every driver involved in a collision during the campaign will be breathalysed.

Anyone convicted will face a minimum driving ban of up to 12 months, up to six years in prison and a fine of up to £5,000.

Yeah bluddy police trying to do their job in a high profile manner to hopefully deter those who currently think they won't get caught.

In fact I'm going to dam them if they do and then dam them if they don't.

Office workers are usually the worst.... they think nothing of drinking during their "extended" lunch breaks; then drive hope when work finishes thinking they are Ok...

This drinking culture at lunch time was more or lost outlawed 20 odd years ago in the building trade; it never happens along with those working in factories operating machines.....
The office staff need to understand this is totally wrong these days.... no drinking and driving at all.....

Thanks

And where do you get these facts from?

In my office, if you take a lunch break it is frowned upon. The chance to get to a pub would be a fine thing, instead we can buy overpriced sandwiches on site. Everyone books meetings (conference calls mainly) so you are sitting down in the same place 10 hours a day and shortening your life.

I know there is a better life out there, but with my skills it pays (just) and supports my family.

But do we really think that these drivers who drink and drive, possibly on a regular basis will be deterred by the possibility of them being named, personally I think not.Serious action needs to be taken eg.if they fail the breath test (sorry couldn't spell breathalyser) confiscate their vehicle if found guilty by the courts crush or sell it.
