YELLOW Buses says its new contract to run a shuttle bus for Bournemouth Airport is off to a flying start.

The company landed a deal with owner the Manchester Airports Group to run an hourly service from 7am to 7pm seven days a week.

The buses link the Aviation Business Park and Hurn with Bournemouth town centre and main hubs in the Yellow Buses network.

Paul Knight, managing director of Bournemouth Airport, said: “We are delighted to welcome Yellow Buses to the Airport. As well as providing a real benefit for our passengers, this new service will also be a boost for those working on the business park and the residents of Hurn village.”

Yellow buses is running a dedicated single-decker on the service, initially using its eye-catching Jubilee liveried bus. The bus, with leather seats and wood effect floors, was a popular attraction on the roads during last year’s Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

It might be used more if it coincided with arrivals and departures as at most other airports in Europe.
.
It doesn't even go to Christchurch where the airport is based.

At least it will now be a different colour, but what of the 'carbon stoppers' Yellow Buses PR exercise whilst this empty Yellow bus pointlessly trundles between the Square and the Airport most days...

Will it travel on the A338? What happens when it's grid locked? Do they have a special lane for it to miss the traffic jams.
Perhaps it would be better to have a mono rail going to the airport running next to the A338 at least it wouldn't be effected by traffic.

Living around Bournemouth, it's not too different in cost when 2 people are travelling to be picked up at your door by a taxi rather than get onto the route this bus travels on.

You can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time.

Does it matter if the service links with flights, of course it doesn't, as long as you get there, and that you choose a shuttle that arrives in time for check in, etc. I realise that a number of flights do leave before 7am, therefore rather than whinge, why not write to Yellow Buses and air your complaints.

Probably not no. The council make the rules.

You'll just have to pay for once.

Because, as the article indicates, they have only just taken over the "service".
Trust me, I will write but I know from previous experience, it will be to no avail.
They're based in France, why would they care???
.
Thanks to Ryanair I have flown to Spain & Portugal around 3 times a year since they started flying from Hurn.
Girona, Reus, Valencia, Palma, Malaga & Faro airports all have buses (Valencia & Malaga trains) approximately every 1/2 hour from around 7 in the morning until close on midnight.
Reus even drops you off at the stop nearest your hotel and puts you on a register to be picked up in time for your return flight!
They have all capitalised on Ryanair & other budget airlines servicing their airports and have expanded in a way I would not have believed 15 years ago.
One of the major reasons is because you can get to and from them easily by affordable public transport.
I'm flying to Malaga tomorrow, the train from the airport into the city is 50c dearer than the drop of fee at Hurn!

Have used this service since it started on 16th November to business park, but is better than the old service as calls in at Bournemouth hospital where one can get buses to Boscombe and Christchurch etc, instead of the bus only going to Bournemouth. Now this service is available many more young people have accepted jobs at the business park. Only problem I find is the wooden floor on the bus is slippery in wet weather.!
