A DORSET children’s hospice has been given a magical new make-over thanks to an interior design company.
Di Lusso Interiors has created a new reception area at Julia’s House – the second time the business has been involved in designing a room at the charity.
Three years ago, the company was involved with the installation of the Mermaid Suite, a private area featuring a child’s bedroom, an adjoining room for family members, and even a courtyard garden.
And the seafaring theme continues with their latest effort, which features a mosaic depicting life under the sea and even a unique six-metre light installation.
Di Lusso director Keeley Fox said: “We wanted the children to feel like they were under the sea looking up at the 50-plus animals swimming along.
“We made sure that the design for the light flowed on from the Mermaid Suite.”
Hospice CEO Martin Edwards decided the design must include a Jurassic theme.
Keeley added: “We wrapped the lobby area in a digital wallpaper image depicting different dinosaurs in the woodland with Dorset Blue butterflies to keep the design close to home.
“We had to make sure that our designs not only looked beautiful and engaging, but also complied with infection control, while at the same time allowing the children to feel safe.”
The project was paid for by the Thomas Cook Children’s Charity, which invited children’s hospices around the UK to apply for funding for refurbishment projects.
Keeley said: “To be involved in such a great project once is an honour.
“To be asked twice is something we have taken very seriously in our design concepts.”
