DANGEROUS drivers are using Burton as a racetrack and putting others at risk, it has been claimed.

Residents spoke out after tyre marks indicating ‘doughnuting’ were pictured in the Daily Echo.

The practice involves spinning a car at high speed and circular marks were seen on the A35 Christchurch bypass, at its junction with Salisbury Road.

One nearby resident said it is just one of a number of road safety concerns in the village.

“It has been an ongoing problem for years with cars using the village as a racetrack, particularly at the weekends,” she said.

“They are absolute idiots.

“Not only is it dangerous but the noise keeps people awake, particularly in the summer when the windows are open.”

Judy Jamieson, a Burton resident and chairman of the parish council, urged residents to report offenders to the police, preferably with registration numbers and other details of vehicles.

“We know in the village we have an issue with speeding” she said.

“We have had an issue over the years and we have drawn it to the attention of the police. We would urge people to report it so they have some evidence.

“As far as the drivers are concerned, it is dangerous and you could injure yourself or other people. Don’t do it.”

Police have urged residents to report bad driving and Brian Austin, project manager for the No Excuse campaign, said: “We welcome information from the public concerned about road users and their behaviour.

“Project No Excuse responds to intelligence received and uses enforcement to target areas where road safety issues areWild drivi identified.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Dorset Police on 101 or the free Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
