Police are hunting the pair following the incident, which took place around 8.35pm in Springfield Road, Poole, while the driver was believed to be looking for a house number.

The 21-year-old male victim, who works for Papa Johns in Ashley Road, was recovering in Poole Hospital on Sunday.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said the driver had left the keys in the ignition of the red Reliant Robin, when two men described as "youths wearing hoodies" entered the vehicle.

Realising what was happening the male driver from Poole driver rushed back to the car but was struck by it as the pair drove off.

Although his injuries are not believed to be serious, he did suffer a slight head trauma, bruising and leg injuries.

Resident Janine Foy said she was in her kitchen when she heard the impact from outside.

“We just heard a massive thump, it was really loud and we just went outside and the poor chap had been knocked to the floor”, she said.

“From what I know he was stood in the road and the car just drove at him. He was conscious when we got out there and we took a blanket out for him.

“Paramedics were there and he was being well looked after.

“A pedestrian helped him as well.”

Kay Wilkinson, who also lives in Springfield Road, said she wasn't able to access the road last night via car.

“I saw some police who were talking to some people but I didn't know what had happened until now”, she said.

“It's awful. It's not very nice at all.

“I saw someone from Papa Johns on a bike parked at the top of the road as I was coming home.”

Police say the car, registration J417 GAB, was recovered on Sunday but refused to give a location.
