AN AWARD-winning cardiologist from Dorset County Hospital has proved he never misses a beat when it comes to awards.

Consultant Dr Fraser Witherow completed a hat-trick of gongs this year when he was recognised at a medical conference in San Francisco.

His award-winning run started in June when Dr Witherow won the best clinical competition at the national Heart Live meeting in Manchester.

He followed that up by being named as a finalist for the international Radialist of the Year competition at the Advanced International Masterclass in Transradial Intervention presented in New York.

The competition celebrated the most skilled operators in the field of interventional cardiology performing coronary stenting procedures via the radial artery.

Dr Witherow’s latest award, which was presented by registrar Dr Mark Mariathas, came at the Transcatheter Therapeutics Conference in San Francisco as he came second place in the challenging case competition.

The Transcatheter Therapeutics meeting is the largest and most prestigious meeting of interventional cardiologists from around the world with around 10,000 delegates.

Dr Witherow said he was delighted and honoured to have received the awards and said it reflected well on the standard of care on offer at Dorset County Hospital.

He said: “The awards reflect the very high quality of cardiology services provided at Dorset County Hospital, not just at a national but an international level.”
